Welcome!

Big Local lets local residents decide how they want to spend £1 million.

This website will tell you about Big Local, the area and the plans of the resident-led partnership which manages the spending programme.

Big Local Small Grants - awards made in December 2023

Residents of North-East Hastings will benefit from the final round of grants following a meeting of the Big Local’s Resident-Led Partnership recently. The ten-year project comes to an end later this year.

Nearly £14,000 was allocated to 14 projects proposed by local organisations covering environmental improvements, practical activities for younger and older members of the community as well as support for community buildings.

Chair of the Resident-Led Partnership that oversees Big Local, Richard Street, said:
“Once again we received a number of applications for grants of up to £1,066 and were delighted to approve most of them. The overriding aim of the grants is to improve the well-being of our residents whether it’s the very popular Forest School in Speckled Wood for children, football coaching for older youngsters or the work of the Men’s Shed, Ore Community Library and Ore Community Centre. Over our 10 years, we’re proud to have been able to improve the lives of local residents albeit in small ways.”

In previous years there were two rounds of small grant awards, in May and November, with up to £1066 available for events and activities that benefit residents of the area.  Big Local has now completed its small grants programme.  In the last ten years over £150,000 has been awarded to over 180 local projects, all delivering activities in North East Hastings for the benefit of residents.

Come and join us!

We are seeking more residents to join the Big Local Resident Led Partnership.  You don’t need any special experience but you should live in the Big Local area and care about what happens to it and the people living in it.  The partnership is a small, friendly group who are all keen to see improvements in the area.  Joining the partnership means attending a monthly meeting (held in the early evening and in the Big Local area) and together with other residents overseeing the delivery of our new action plan.  There are opportunities to get involved with other activities, if you are interested.

For more information contact Jan Papworth, our Community Development Worker on 01424 444010 (Mon-Weds).
